Weigh In

We had our weight check yesterday. Ava had lost another ounce so the doctor told us we needed to supplement. We're feeding her at least every 3 hours and adding an ounce of formula after the boob. What's amazing is that after just about every feeding, she has zonked out for about 3 hours each time. She was incredibly quiet last night and allowed Fredo and I to sleep pretty much uninterrupted (besides waking up to feed every 3 hours). I think we each got about 6 hours or so of sleep.

Right now, she's in her moses basket, not sleeping but not making a sound.

We go back to the doctor tomorrow morning to see how we're doing. I'm not sure how long we're going to have continue to supplement but we'll see what they say.

Aww ... I'm sorry. I'm sure you've heard it a million times, but breastfeeding is hard (despite all of the happy looking moms in the magazine - whatever).

Nathan lost a pound while in the hospital, so he had weigh-ins every week (sometimes twice a week) for the first month. We supplemented with formula for about 2 months.

Now, because the breastpump and I are sworn enemies and I can't get a darn supply, he has formula at daycare and breastmilk at home.

ANY breastmilk you give Ava is beneficial - to both of you. So, please, don't be hard on yourself. You're doing what's right for both of you. I'm convinced that most people have a hard time, they just forget about it after things are going well.

If you ever need a breastfeeding shoulder to cry on --- please email me. I mean really, I just live a couple miles west of you! :)

Thanks Marianne!

It is a lot harder than I thought it would be. But it seems the things worth doing are harder than they appear.
